I'm filing this under "failures" for its utter lack of any interesting depth, shapes or forms. The colors and values are also all over the place - the background tries so hard to be the star that nothing is.

And look at that tree! Could it be any more shapeless?

The reference was pretty striking, but in an almost graphic-design-y kind of way. It's flat but it works. Have another look at how I butchered this cool tree:

I think I paint better when there is something 3-dimensional to paint. I spent 10 years working in 3D computer graphics, so I guess that's where my mind is at.
