I'm trying out some different styles - this one is a bit more moody.

I really wanted to capture the gorgeous colors of the backlit tree, and the more subtle earth tones of the rocks. The little bits of water peeking through tie it all together.

This is one of the few times I've used a strong underpainting. It does make it harder to achieve "clean" colors but really helps pull the scene together in the end.

 

It felt good to paint this one after 3 failures in a row. I managed to learn, move on, and improve!

- Used some decent values this time.

- Used an underpainting (orange/pink) that helped my focal point (the glowy backlit tree) stand out.
