I tried my hand at another waterfall after a few failures (you can see them on my blog, it's not pretty). This one turned out much better - I think I had my values planned out this time. Or I got lucky.

I've also been playing around a lot with livening up my colors - mixing red, green, blue or yellow into them to add variety. I am a big fan of using black because in my mind it's a more natural starting point for dark and desaturated colors. Sometimes though I'll try mixing a known color in a completely different way - some of the greys here started with primaries, others started with boring old black + white. I think the mix of ideas really helped this painting.
