Foggy Foothills
Another so-so landscape today. It doesn't look like it, but it was a mountain (haha) of work! Mixing colors still takes me a long time, and in this case I had to mix a different set for each layer of depth. The further away a subject is the more it tends to be obscured by atmospheric perspective, which desaturates it and pulls it more towards blues and purples. In a painting like this it meant that I had to mix my 5 main colors about 5 times each, which meant 25 mixes. I ran out of space on my palette!
In hindsight it's not a bad result but it's looking a bit bland. There's nothing that really stands out. Maybe putting a bit of blue or orange in the sky would've provided a nice focal point, or some cloud shadows on the ground. As it is, it's a bit bland. We learn and move on...
