Red Gum Tree (4x4")

After the last landscape I painted, I wanted to focus more on interesting colors and light. I found this red gum tree on a walk and loved the way the light bounced up from the ground to create deeply saturated form shadows.

There's a bit of a problem with contrast between light and dark in this one - it's hard to tell what's in shadow and what's in light - but overall I'm very happy with it. I love observing how light and color behave, and it was great to paint a scene where they act in such an interesting way.
